This Was Lock The Doors & Windows Creepy!

This book of "true sightings" by apparently normal, sober people scared me to death! One of those "glad hubby is home tonight" books. Some of it drags a bit (why it got 4 stars instead of 5) but the stories for the most part are truly creepy. The one that got to me (spoiler alert!) was where a woman was driving down a dark road and comes upon a person walking on the side of the road. Happens to everyone all the time right? Well as she passed the walker turned and looked at her and gave her a big werewolf snarl from a snout full of teeth. Seems the walker was your typical "Manwolf". Yikes.
If you like werewolves this book is worth a read.

This book is AWESOME!!!!

This book is absolutely PERFECT for any Paranormal fan. I've been fascinated with Mrs. Godfrey's work since I found her website awhile back. These Man-Wolf creatures are very interesting, and it almost has me packing up to go and do some research. Although I'm not sure I actually will, I don't want to get attacked or anything. *LOL* In all seriousness though, this book is amazing and very well written. I loved it very much and could not put it down. Matter of fact I'm reading it again. Being a Paranormal researcher myself it's a "field-guide" I'll never part ways with. :)

A Howling Good Read

Linda Godfrey combines the get-your-paws-dirty ethics of investigative journalism with the wit and perspective of a woman who's been to the weird side...and back again. And she's a crackerjack writer to boot. Linda gives Cryptozoology a good name and I can't wait to sink my teeth into her next title. A great read late at night with the covers pulled tight (and windows locked shut). Beware the roadside shadows...they may have claws.

Absolutely essential for every test taker

The short story is that this book is absolutely incredible, worth every penny, and increased my LR performance from getting 15 wrong every time to getting only four wrong every time. BUY IT, especially before you do any other kind of prep. Give yourself a month to get through it. It gives you concrete methods for how to attack every problem type.

The long story:

I had a roundabout way of getting to the point where I ordered this book. I took a Kaplan course and hated it. I did all of the homework and dedicated my life to the course for a month straight. It wasn't working. My score went from a 160 on the diagnostic to a 152, then a 154. The 160 diagnostic enabled me to enroll in their advanced course, but the course was completely unhelpful. Kaplan's methods aren't methods; they just say things like "oh, that is out of the scope, so it's wrong". Well, how do I know it's out of the scope? You don't. Or, you could probably figure it out, but that takes tons of time and on the LSAT you don't have tons of time. Kaplan does not give concrete reasons that can be applied to every question of the same type for determining why something is or isn't correct. The course wasn't working for me or improving my score, so after three weeks (the course was five weeks total), I dropped it. What a waste of over $1000.

I decided to get private tutoring. The tutoring company I used was brilliant for games, but also very expensive and I had already dropped a ton of money on the Kaplan course. I decided I'd look into using a book for LR instead. And I am saying this now to everyone who has not yet started prepping for the LSAT: BUY THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU TAKE A CLASS OR GET TUTORING OF ANY KIND. GIVE YOURSELF A MONTH WITH THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU DO ANY KIND OF LR PREP WHATSOEVER. This will save you a ton of money - the book is a HUGE bargain and worth every penny. It will also give you an excellent foundation for learning how to do every single kind of problem, and it is likely that you will not have to do any other kind of prep (ie tutoring or a class) once you read this book. You will obviously have to do a lot of practice problems and tests, but you won't need any other kind of instruction as to how to do the problems.

The main reason I like this book is it gives you an actual method as to how to do each problem type. My problem wasn't that I didn't understand why the right answer was right, it was that I couldn't finish in time, so I a) had to guess on the last five problems and b) sped up and my accuracy went out the window. By using the methods in this book, I was able to cut down on time for these problems so that I now always finish with at least three minutes to spare. The methods tell you how to look at a problem, what to look for, what is a likely incorrect answer (so that when you see it you can eliminate it very quickly without being tempted), and what a correct answer looks like. The most helpful piece of advice they give is that there is an identifiable and clear correct answer out of each of the choices. By using these methods, I was able to figure out what that answer was quickly, or at least figure out what the wrong answers were quickly.

The other thing to be said about this is that it is a long book. It's over 500 pages. GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME TO GET THROUGH IT. Skimming it, or just reading the methods, will not help you. You have to practice them until they become second nature. And you also have to give yourself enough time to actually get through all of the pages. I worked full time while getting through this, and I spent my lunch hour every day working through it, and was able to get through it in just over a month.

You can't expect this to work miracles overnight. But if you put in the time, it will help you increase your speed and accuracy without ever having to pay for a course or tutoring. Or, it will at least give you a sense of what kinds of problems you have trouble with, and then you can get the most out of tutoring by being efficient about it and targeting your weak areas. Or even if you don't get tutoring, you will know what kinds to practice.

I wasted $1000 before I picked this wonderful book up. Don't repeat my mistake. Use this as a first line of defense, and see just how far it will get you in your quest for a great LSAT score.

Note: I have not gotten my official LSAT score back yet. However, I did finish both LR sections with time to spare, and in practice exams, I had consistently gotten no more than four wrong on the LR sections in the past five tests i'd taken.

Use 7Sage Instead

While this book is helpful, I found an online curriculum called 7Sage to be much more helpful. This book seems to miss some fundamental conceptual ideas behind the questions, while focusing too much on "easy" fixes to get you to the right answer. While that might work for the majority of the questions, if you're looking to be a mid-170s scorer, you need that conceptual background to get the curve-breaker questions correct. I got that background in a much easier manner and more quickly through 7Sage, and so I'd honestly recommend that program over buying this book. 7Sage focuses on things like the concepts that link principle and sufficient assumption questions, rather than teaching those in isolation the way this book does.

Great LSAT Prep Book

I used all three Powerscore books when studying for the LSAT and this was the best; I also recommend the Logic Games Bible (the Reading Comprehension Bible wasn't as helpful, mainly because I think it's a really hard section to study for). It completely changed (in a good way) the way I did the logical reasoning questions - my scores on practice tests greatly improved. It breaks down each type of question and teaches you how to do them quickly. It takes some time to go through the book but it's totally worth it!

There are so many grammatical errors in this book that I was too focused on the author’s misuse/abuse of the English language to pay attention to the actual content. Here are a few examples:

Location 140: …is easily being through out the window.
Location 174: …the process is becoming even more simpler, and will continue to do so.
Location 198: …the innovations of technology is putting a stop on traditional methods…
Location 199: Companies such as Lending Club and Prosper specializes in peer to peer…
Location 234:… the options has never been as open…
Location 242:… is a difficulty tons of people have had issues with. [seriously, "tons" of people???]
Location 243:… Platforms such as TransferWise has radically changed…

I suppose in today’s day and age, it is possible to publish and sell a book with no editorial review. Very useful guide for beginners in FinTech

Financial technology is something I don't know anything about, but I know enough to see that it is something worth learning about.
This book is perfect for someone like me. It explains everything about it, the history, uses, dangers and what will it be like in the future. It is well-written for a beginner like me, understandable and patiently paced. I feel like I got a lot from it and I can only recommend it to anyone even slightly interested in the subject. Good book.

Very elementary, partially wrong, and terribly written

I am an attorney who works in banking regulation and who routinely works with fintech issues. This book is horrible. The author clearly does not understand how banking works or how the fintech industry operates. All of the information in the book is extremely basic, and some of it is wrong. The writing is also curiously bad, I would put it at a
middle school level. The grammar errors make me question if there was an editor.
This book will just confuse you about the real challenges and potential facing the fintech industry. Avoid it.

Good coloring book but has some errors

Good coloring book with some errors. My 8 year old chemistry lover absolutely loves this book. He's halfway through the book but has found some errors or typos. The periodic tables they have in the book have elements 116 and 117 names incorrectly. 116 should be Livermorium and 117 should be ununseptium (although now, Dec. 2016, officially renamed to Tennessine) Also, Tetraphosphorus Trisulfide is listed as P5S3 but it's actually P4S3. The diagram I incorrect as well. Now, I don't know anything about chemistry myself. My son pointed these errors out and when I cross check, he seems to be correct. I'm interested to see if he finds more errors as he works through the book.

Great refresher of basics

Loving this book. I love to color and It has been over 20 years since I took chemistry and I don't remember much. I need a refresher so I can prep to take my test for my chemistry teaching credential. It is great for helping me remember the basic before I get into more complicated stoichiometry and such. I've been working my way through this combined with the self-teaching chemistry equations and problems book. After the holidays, I'm jumping into the AP chemistry test book and then the CSET practice test.

It has excellent diagrams that help for understanding why different atoms behave has they do.
