Why doesn't somebody?

Why doesn't somebody order a reprint of this book since it is so seminal to understanding color and light for painters? At $700 this book is way beyond my reach. Can't even find one in the library. Come on Amazon order a soft cover, full color edition!!!! Maybe Amazon should contract with Northern Lights to do the reprint.

Why is this book not reprinted and made available for artists?

I would love to be able to rate this book but cannot. The single star was posted inorder to send this message. As an artist, I would love to read this book but will not not pay the ridiculous current price. Why is this book not more widely available? Who owns the copyright? Does some selfish soul hold the copyright and hoard multiple copies allowing only a precious few copies out so higher prices will supplement their income? From what I have read, Henry Hensche was a teacher, keen on spreading his philosophy, and would be very disappointed that his book on painting was not getting out into the artists' hands. There are books by Henry Hensche's past students but these do not fulfill the desire for the real thing and seem, at best, snapshots taken from class notes. The net result of not getting Henry Hensche's book and his philosophy spread around will be the loss of the memory of this man and his teachings. Someday, folks will hear his name and say "Henry who"? "Who was he and why was he important?" Maybe that fading is already beginning to happen. His book will fall into obsoleteness and demand will be a just a trickle at best. The holder of the copyright does not do justice to Henry Hensche's memory and teaching.

Surely destined to be a classic for the striving Color Visualist painter, "The Art of Seeing and Painting" dispells many misunderstood and misrepresented facts about painting, the Old Masters, Impressionism and Claude Monet. An excellent source of solid information on a subject which has heretofore never been adaquately taken to such a degree of analysis and criticism.

This book IS for dummies!

Author took the title too literally. He fills the book with corny analogies and bad jokes. Covers the most basic uses of CorelDraw and nothing more. Buy a more sophisticated title!

It is witty, but needs some improvement

CorelDraw 8 for Dummies
In general the book is fun and easy to read. I used it to learn CorelDraw for the first time. Everything is explained in plain English. The only two things that slightly annoyed me were: emphasizing the use of the rarely-used "keyboard equivalents" instead of the mouse and some unnecessary chunks of text with vague explanations that could be easily avoided. The witty descriptions are refreshing for someone, but only for one who is not in a rush to obtain the core of information.

Easy to get on with, novice to just intermediate.

One of the those books that is nice for begineers but a little annoying for those with computer experience. On the whole it was good (and the humour was excellent) but it is designed as a book for beginners. Having said that, there was enough in it for myself (experience in computers but new to Corel 8) to buy it; and it at least touched on Corel 3D which was more than the official guide seemed to. If you are a beginner, get it; intemediate well maybe, and if you are already using Corel products then I wouldn't bother. I would like to see a CorelDraw 8 for Thickies which would cover the intemediate to advance topics. Come on guys, the market's out there!

This book is great reading

"My Left Foot" is about a young man, born in 1932 to a Dublin bricklayer, with cerebral palsy who cannot even control his limbs let alone write his own autobiography. He starts off with his childhood: his relatives and doctors are telling his mother that he will amount to nothing; he was a moron. But his mother never gives up on him, for she knew that inside his useless body was a very capable mind. She teaches him to write with his left foot. By the time he's five years old, he knows his whole alphabet! He goes on and tells about his life growing up with twelve other siblings. He speaks of how the startling realization, that he was not like everyone else, changed his life. And he finishes with how he finds inside himself what he had all along. Christy Brown really shows his talent for writing in "My Left Foot". He tells his story without ever being depressing and sulky and there are parts that will just make you laugh out loud, especially when he talks about his first attempts at writing his autobiography.
The movie is also great; Daniel Day-Lewis, in his Oscar winning role, is excellent. It gave the book the recognition it deserved as being a great piece of classic literature

My Left Foot

I found Christy Brown's My Left Foot to be a fascinating read. It is the story of Christy's life and all the struggles he must overcome. Despite his disabilities, he was a multi-published author and an accomplished artist. He manages to do all these tasks with the use of his left foot.
I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to a parent of a disabled child. The story gives hope and inspiration. Being the mother of a child with cerebral palsy myself, I could really relate to the events in the novel.

" Breathtaking!!"

The book "My Left Foot", was one of the best books I have read. It tells the life story of Christy Brown and how he still lived his life while his little body was twisted with a disease. I found it very touching at times and it made me happy to when he would over come bumps in his life. When he first made the letter "A" I was smiling from ear to ear.
I would recommend this book to for anyone to read, especially to a mother with a disabled child. It really proves that no matter who you are, you can do anything you put your mind to.
I can't wait to see the movie!

Great Insights into Balancing the Chakras

And she explains how to tune into the chakras to find paths back to living naturally, freely and peacefully.

Michelle recommends small daily changes that can lead to dramatic results. As she moves through the seven major chakras, she discusses the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual components of each, guiding the reader to understand how to get back into alignment.

From the Author
I was first introduced to Picatrix in 1998 by my magical teacher, Robert Zoller. At that time it was only available in Latin. What Latin I now have, I learned from working with Picatrix. John Greer and I worked together for over two years on this translation, and now finally, a complete and usable English translation of Picatrix is available.

This translation is indeed complete, including all four books of Picatrix, the most famous grimoire of astrological magic. We used the Pingree's Latin critical edition, so this translation is authoritative, relying on multiple manuscripts, rather than on a single variant. Why translate from the Latin? Well, firstly John Greer, my co-translator, is an excellent Latinist, but neither of us has a sufficient grasp of medieval Arabic. However, what I do have is a mastery of traditional astrology. Picatrix is so heavily astrological that the non-expert is completely lost when it comes to making an intelligible translation. Some other translations, despite ostensibly being from Arabic, have suffered greatly from an almost complete lack of astrological knowledge, leaving large sections incoherent and incomprehensible.

By contrast, our translation of the Picatrix reveals its true sweep and splendor as Picatrix is both an exhaustive manual of practical astrological magic as well as an expansive treatise on the Hermetic philosophy of astrology, alchemy and magic. This translation includes an extensive introduction and copious annotations, over 450 footnotes for 300 pages of text!

Like Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy which relies heavily on it, Picatrix represents the distillation of many earlier works. Written circa AD 1000 in Moorish Spain and translated into Latin in 1256 at the court of the Castilian king Alphonso the Wise, Picatrix is an authentic ancient work. The author says he consulted over 200 books of magic, astrology and alchemy. Picatrix was and still remains the premier grimoire of astrological magic, the highest of high magic, combining, as it does, ceremonial magic with the precise timing of traditional astrology. Picatrix explains how to create hundreds of different types of astrological talismans, including planetary, Mansions of the Moon, decan/face and house based talismans. Picatrix includes extensive planetary invocations and ritual from the pagan Sabians of Harran, renowned medieval magicians and astrologers. Sublime Neoplatonic and Hermetic philosophy bumps shoulders with "confections" of the brain of a black dove or blood sacrifice.

We have been very careful to produce an authoritative translation of the Latin Picatrix, which will satisfy both scholarly interest as well as be of use to the contemporary practitioner. The various editions of the Picatrix, for example, this edition, the Illustrated Picatrix and the Liber Atratus, both available through Amazon, or other editions, including the Liber Rubeus and Liber Viridis Green Magic edition and deluxe large format color Illustrated Picatrix, available through the Renaissance Astrology website, all have the same authoritative, complete translation of Picatrix, newly revised from our earlier versions. The separate editions have different formatting and fonts, and add to the complete translation, additional useful and interesting material.� The Illustrated Picatrix includes gorgeous black and white images by Nigel Jackson of the 7 planets and 28 Mansions of the Moon using the specific Picatrix descriptions which add greatly to the beauty and utility of this edition.

Despite its popularity among mages, Picatrix was never published until the modern era. Finally, a complete, lucid and clear English translation is available, now with illustrations!
