Heiner Muller was one of the most vital playwrights of the 20th Century and is now invaluable in the 21th Century. This volume Published by PAJ and Edited and Translated by Carl Weber is essential. It covers Muller at a crucial period in his writing in the mid seventies and through to the early eighties. These were the most recent of his performance texts at the time of original publication with the exception of the socialist realist piece THE CORRECTION---one of his earliest plays. The performance texts contained within are:

THE CORRECTION [with Inge Muller] (1957), MEDEAPLAY (1975), HAMLETMACHINE (1977), GUNDLING’S LIFE FREDERICK OF PRUSSIA LESSING’S SLEEP DREAM SCREAM (1976), THE TASK (1979), QUARTET (1981), HEARTPIECE (1981), DESPOILED SHORE MEDEAMATERIAL LANDSCAPE WITH ARGONAUTS (1982)

No other playwright has so encapsulated the frenzied crises of our epoch--- be it existential, social or political. Muller’s work captures the schizophrenia of our times: seizing the emotional instability, detachment from reality and withdraw into the self that is triggered by attempting to conform to socio-political norms and programs. Projects Artaud’s unyielding and furious philosophy. Uses the model of synthetic-fragments to create heightened awareness in the juxtaposing of scenes and texts. This is an excellent collection of Muller for anyone seriously interested in theatre. The German author's remarkable work spans political changes before, during, and after the fall of the Berlin Wall and represents a pivotal time in German society and theatre. With new treatments of classical texts (like Hamlet and Medea) as well as innovative works exploring themes of devotion and sexuality (like Quartet), this collection of short plays is a great starting point for theatre enthusiasts interested in tackling Muller.

Worth checking out.

Very detailed diagrams, well researched hypothesis.This book is worth reading and seeing all the equations that Evan uses. In this book Evan presents many new ideas and concepts about consciousness and how it relates to space and time. This may be a break thru in Quantum relativity it is also an inspirational story of a man following his dreams and sharing his passion for physics with the world. Check it out for your self.

Alpha = omega= delta=1=1=1 is what the book says. To me it seems to be very meaningless. Someone might have written a book with a title like this one has and it could be fascinating and significant. This one is not.

They basically help the Professor set up every lab. I am developing a molecular lab from scratch and this book is a great reference. They list the equipment needed in a molecular lab, supplies at each work station, preps for each lab for lab technicians. These authors really put a lot of work into this. The ONLY hiccup (and I hope they are reading this to prepare for their next edition). It would be nice if they added another appendix that lists the equipment, the company AND item number, so that I can purchase the correct items. It is well written. The curriculum is a great layout. They even have real-time PCR as one of the experiments which is exciting. Latest molecular techniques. I think I'' have fun with this!

This is a book that was difficult to locate in LYS (local yarn shops) so had to be ordered on-line, always a gamble with knitting instructions. I was pleasantly surprised. The photos, more than one for each item, were clear and precise enough to see details otherwise in question while also being appealing to look at. The instructions were as clear as most, perhaps requiring caution for a beginning knitter (crocheter) but otherwise easy to follow.
I would have liked a better technical / mechanical description of the yarns, particularly on the cover, as it uses only 2 weights; and perhaps patterns with more variations.
Overall, the photos are appealing; so far the items are coming out within dimensions given if gauge is verified beforehand. Most of the items are knitted; one or two was crocheted. Overall, artistically well-done and encouraging to look at. Patterns cute and creative, medium ability, and some blocking, to construct items.

Filled with beauty, variety and fascinating patterns. Lots of inspiration and some very challenging projects. There are a few here that aren't too demanding, but I wouldn't advise this for a beginner unless you're looking to jump fast and far. Beautiful use of color and texture, includes a little of every technique to appeal to your different moods. so far I've just found the need for errata in one pattern, so this is something you can buy feeling secure that your questions will be answered

Works for other thick and thin yarn brands.

This book has been very helpful for me. I had purchased some thick and thin yarn a couple years ago only to find that there were very few patterns for this yarn if I wanted to make a sweater. Although My yarn is not the Rowan yarn featured in the book, the suggested needle size and gauge are the same. The pictures were also helpful as it was difficult to visualise how the thick and thin yarn would look knitted up as a garment.
I am currently knitting one of the sweaters in the book and my yarn is working fine with the pattern.
I do realize that this is an English publication; I can't help but wish that it included measurements in inches as well as centimeters.

Excellent value

This is a great collection of Renessanse pieces.

I am an intermediate guitar player (say, five years of playing) and the easy pieces are just immediately playable, intermediate are "browsable" (e.g. I can easily walk through them to get the idea) but would require a week or two to play smoothly, and "advanced" are hard, yet doable (I could probably take one as a 3-8 months project).

For a beginner it might be a good book as well, just make sure you're familiar with music notation already. This is a nice collection of pieces with fairly thoughtful fingering and advices about difficult parts. This is not a self-help guitar/music text book, and it doesn't have tabs (I am so happy about that, tabs would probably make it twice thicker).

Fingering is very good, and very thorough, sometimes with thorough right hand fingering. I disagree with fingering in some cases, but in any case, the proposed variant is at least "very good" if not "excellent".

RE CD. I am a little bit disappointment, CD alone would get maybe "3 star". It's OK to illustrate pieces, it's done by a professional guitarist, but it's definitely far away from a "world-class concert level performance". E.g. the last few lines in Mudarra's Fantasia where bass line is main melody and upper voice is accompaniment: bass line is not emphasized (it's quieter than the accompaniment) and it's not at all smooth.

Another of the Great Frederick Noad Titles

As far as guitar sheet music/song books go, Frederick Noad was and is a name to be trusted. This collection is no different from his others. A first rate compilation. I rarely have problems with his fingering suggestions. The selections are top notch and always include a few surprises! Mr. Noad was truly one of the finest classical guitar teachers of the 20th century (and a top flight guitarist to boot). His legacy lives on in his songbooks. I own everything he published and recommend him most highly to beginner, intermediate and advanced students alike.

Variety and value

I see that everyone else has covered the ground pretty well, so I'll just add two things:

Firstly, that I agree with the reviewer who thought that the pieces should be arranged for 3rd string to F# (as in N� 52), to simulate lute-tuning: using normal tuning just creates problems for yourself, in all but a few cases�. Still, the fingering is generally easy enough to change, so it's still a good book.

If the index were a little more helpful...

I have realized that this probably is one of the better books on WiX, and I would certainly recommend it to other users: Lots of practical examples, clearly highlighting the essentials. Especially the first few chapters lead you by the hand to get you started, in order to gain practical experience yourself. Language is consise, clear and not too wordy.

Yet the book has a few shortcomings. The major one could easily be remedied in the next edition: The index isn't worth much. Every single term I would try to look up is missing, and I must resort to sequential search through the text (or to googling). Not even XML element names are generally available as lookup terms. This makes the book poorly suited as a reference for the half-studied reader who now and then have to resort to reading the documentation, but with no time to sit down to review a long series of tutorials, no matter how instructional they are.

My second complaint requires more extensive work: The book is good at telling what to do, but not why. The line of thought, the logic behind the curtains, does not come through very cleary. Again and again, my co-workers and I struggle for days to get things right, going out on the wrong tracks again and again, because we assume a different sort of logic. Once we grasp 'the big picture', we see the meaning of those details in the book, and exclaim "But why didn�t you explain WHY?" After all, few textbook examples fit exactly to your problem, and then you must have a somewhat deeper understanding of the internals to work efficiently. The book takes some steps in the right direction, e.g. by explaining the sequence of steps in the installation process, but it requires a great effort from the reader to relate various parts of the WiX markup to these steps.

Extending the index to five times its current size would alone change my rating from a high 3 to a high 4. To reach a 5 would take a lot of revision to make the reader not only learn WiX, but understand WiX and the Windows installer. After reading this book from start to end, you still have a long way to go to truly understand WiX and msiexec.

Simply the best

I was in need of a good introduction to the new Burn chainer. How do I use it? What is its model like? What does it do, exactly? How does it package installs? What are its possibilities?

I had the prior edition ("WiX 3.5" by the same author), and I was impressed with its thoroughness, ease of reading, and helpful, pragmatic level of detail. This new edition certainly didn't disappoint.

The Burn chainer was explained in more pragmatic detail than I could find elsewhere. Furthermore, Ramirez gives you a roadmap to writing custom UI for the new Burn chainer, which in my estimation, is one of the Holy Grails of WiX at this time, since so little useful information is available in a condensed form from any single source.

In no time, I felt comfortable downloading the WiX BA source, building it, and understanding how the WiX team created their own custom chainer, which is a great example off of which to design your own custom UI's.

I moved from main-line product development to installs/deployment about 2 years ago, and I have yet to find another author that can provide the same level of useful information. It's not just the information that counts, to my mind at least: it's the ability to present the information in a logical, coherent, understandable form that separates the so-so authors from the truly excellent ones.

Ramirez is one of those very few, and very "value-for-the-money" types of authors.

If you want to get a really quick start on an often very dark topic (I remember having to assemble this information myself from scores of blogs and websites), do yourself a favor, and buy this book! And oh, by the way, even if you've been doing this kind of work for a while, you'll often find yourself going back for some things that Ramirez can shed some light on.

Made the learning curve much less steep

This book was excellent. I pretty much had a day to learn how to move from ClickOnce to a packaged deployment and this made the learning curve that is associated with WiX so much easier. I tried not to buy it and just read the documentation, but that was slow going. I couldn't recommend this book enough.

Excellent Work

This was an excellent book - One of the best i've read to date from the DragonLance series, and i've been an avid reader for about 8 years. The story was very well told, very interesting, and the first few chapters really drew my interest. So much, in fact, that I read the entire book in one sitting. The book relates the story of Vinas Solamnus, who, while a relatively important figure in the DragonLance series, was barely touched upon until now. I'd recommend this tale to any experienced DragonLance reader.

Too much, too fast, yielding very little

The idea of the founder of the Solamnic Knights (Dragonlance's version of Knights Templar) being a flawed character with a past that some would call downright despicable is an exceptional idea. Unfortunately because the book covers three decades in just around 300 pages, the journey that Vinas Solamnus takes is rushed at a lightning quick pace so in the end it all seems shallow and simple.

Additionally, this book is a prime example of what I like to call "overblown importance". The pitfall of many a fantasy writer is to constantly make their heroes journey even more remarkable, even more fantastic, even more magical, than anyone else's. If each author is writing in his or her own created world that's fine. If you are writing in a shared universe, like Dragonlance, it belittles and cheapens what has come before.

I know that Krynn is a magic-infused world with amazing creatures around every bend but normal personalities and emotions exist there as well. One of the challenges that Vinas faces is a conniving Empress who lusts after Vinas so he will assist her in eliminating her foppish, cruel emperor husband. Instead of attempting blackmail, extortion, or maybe even a little magic, her move is to ally with a lich who provides her with access to a zombie army and battle-crazed beserkers.

At every plot turn, the author relied on such heavy-handed devices instead of using human (or elven) emotion and personality to drive decisions and actions. The result is a book that that is trying to hard to be impressive and solid but ends up rather flimsy and silly.

Good Job with Vinas

This was a good Dragonlance book and one of the things I loved about it was that you don't need to be a major DL fanatic to like this book, the story was still there (perhaps it wasn't as meaningful) even if you haven't read the mainstream DL novels yet. The only thing I didn't like in this novel was the swift ending, it seemed like King started to write just to finish the story and stopped writing to tell the story. The very end was way too short and the way that Ergoth was taken care of seemed a bit cheap. But other than those few down points, this novel is totally worth reading.
